Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech because it has cutting-edge labs, highly qualified faculty, and a low student-to-faculty ratio. At Oregon Tech, I can learn in the hands-on ways that I learn best from the best. I chose mechanical engineering because I’ve spent most of my life figuring out everyday mechanisms work. I want to work on improving their designs.
My Influential Professors
I took a class freshman year of high school titled “Principles of Engineering.” The curriculum was tiered, so as I demonstrated the ability to move quickly with the concepts, I was more and more free to choose what I worked on. The teacher, Ms. Roscher, always encouraged me on whatever projects I chose. She helped me get my hands on a 3D printer that I could maintain and repair. She inspired me to look for more hands-on learning.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience was fabricating props at an escape room. I set up the low-voltage electronics throughout the room. I learned how to look for solutions and handle setbacks. I was able to experience working under set criteria and timelines which opened my eyes to the professional work environment.
My Plans After Graduation
After graduating, I hope to find an engineering firm that lets me have the most possible creative liberties to engineer solutions to problems, either on my own or on a team. In my personal life, I will apply my learning to hobbies. I am already scheming ideas ranging from turning a pen on a lathe to designing and fabricating motor mounts for my favorite car.
