Student, Class of 2020
Chico, California

Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

I chose Oregon Tech because its well known for its hands-on learning experience and smaller classroom sizes. This has allowed me to make deeper connections with my professors, and allows me to thrive in the classroom.

What do you like most about your program?

I like that we have full access to the lab 7 days a week and most hours of the day. This allows for students with all different schedules to practice scanning and work on assignments at their own convenience.

What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?

The continuing innovation of ultrasound machines is something that I’m very passionate about. After I become an experienced cardiac sonographer, I would enjoy having the opportunity to connect with manufacturing companies to help improve ergonomic design and user interfaces.

What would be your dream job?

Working for a progressive hospital that uses cutting edge technology and serves a diverse population.

What have been some of your favorite classes and why?

So far echocardiography courses have been my favorite. I did also enjoy Cardiac Physiology which focused primarily on cardiovascular fluid dynamics.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

I wish everyone knew about the OIT smartphone app before transferring. The app contains different sections that include a student feed, buying & selling, lost & found, and a housing section. At the time of my program acceptance I wasn’t aware of the app. I had difficulty looking for a place to live in Klamath Falls and wished that I could somehow connect with other students that were attending OIT. If I had known about this app, my transition process would have gone smoother.

Are you involved on campus? If so, how?

Yes, I am in the echocardiography club. We fundraise money for our program by volunteering work hours to the school and community.

Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus, what you wish you knew before attending Oregon Tech or anything else?

OIT is a smaller university that is located in rural Klamath Falls. This aspect may not be so appealing, especially if you’re coming from a larger city. Before moving here, I had similar thoughts but ended up falling in love with the college and community. I also realized there are many benefits to its size and location. For example, OIT’s atmosphere is extremely welcoming, and unlike larger colleges, students and faculty have more autonomy and have closer relationships providing better education. Klamath Falls is also the sunniest city in Oregon and is geographically diverse providing great opportunity for outdoor adventuring.
