Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

(I am a junior college transfer student) I wanted to continue playing softball in college, but I wasn't going to continue playing if I couldn't find a school to play for that could meet my personal preferences as well as provide me with a great education. I visited OIT with my father. He was prepared to dislike it, I was more open, but post tour and adviser/coach meetings we both left convinced this was the place for me.

What do you like most about your program?

I love how small it is, there's 37 of us! I transferred in as a junior, but after the first year I feel very comfortable with all of my peers and professors.  I get the opportunity to work on projects and personally work with local businesses that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to if our program had the same number of students as larger universities.

What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?

Marketing jobs vary greatly so your impact can be seen in any aspect of the business world.  I want to be part of the reason a company grows and thrives, as well as sharing with the world a product/service that can impact their lives for good.

What would be your dream job?

I would be part of the huge and intricate process of creating a Super Bowl ad.  The most watched event of the year with the most iconic commercials and I could say I was small part of it.  But, landing a career within content marketing is my goal.

What have been some of your favorite classes and why?

Social media marketing: I keep getting involved with social media projects and jobs. It was a great class to teach the marketing aspects of the platforms and it was very fun!

Business Graphic Design: I use Photoshop often, but I'm self-taught. This class taught me more about the program, as well as others within the Adobe Creative Suite for business projects such as making logos, brochures, and business cards. I like the classes that allow me to use my creativity!

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

That we have a business department! And a really high quality one as well! We get drowned out by the engineers and health majors, but our business programs are producing quality and career ready graduates as well.

Have you participated in any internships during your time at Oregon Tech? Did you gain valuable experience from them?

I had an internship over the summer with a small law firm back in Washington with the position of social media manager - that was interesting considering my lack of knowledge about law.  I also am working for Oregon Tech Alumni Association and creating a social media marketing plan, guide, and schedule.  I never really thought I'd be so involved in social media marketing.

Do you have employment/graduate school plans for after graduation?

I do not currently have any positions lined up, but I have been looking online at potential positions available back home and I am excited to start applying.  I met a news reporter-anchor from the Western, WA news station, KOMO 4 News, here at Oregon Tech during an auction and they mentioned there is a social media position available at their station.

Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus, what you wish you knew before attending Oregon Tech or anything else?

Don't run away from the little town and campus, the surrounding environment makes up for it such as the Lava Beds, waterfalls, hot springs, Crater Lake, hikes and trails, and a beautiful sunset everyday over Klamath Lake.
