A Little Bit About Me

I am a first-generation college student from Salem, OR. I transferred to Oregon Tech in Fall 2021 to complete the pre-MIT requirements. I am an incoming junior in the Radiologic Science program. I am a Student Success Mentor in which I work with Housing and Residence Life and TOP. I also work for Oregon Tech's newspaper, The Edge. I write articles about cultural events, holidays, and/or traditions and food reviews around Klamath Falls. I have also been a part of the Latinx club since Fall 2021.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech because of the success it has had with the medical imaging programs. I've always wanted to be at an institution where they value hands-on learning and implement that into their academics. I chose Radiologic Science as my major because it's fascinating to see that our modality is not just imaging bones but scanning the entire body, doing gastrointestinal exams with contrast, and seeing all the various exams that may not be as common.

My Influential Professors

My influential professors are Stephen Schultz, Don McDonnell, and Kyle Chapman.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech was understanding what it means to be culturally competent. As a first-generation college student, I never heard phrases like "cultural competency" growing up, so this terminology was new to me. Although the conversations I had with other college students were uncomfortable, I realized that was the main purpose because that allowed me to grow and gain a better understanding.

My Plans After Graduation

My plans for the future after graduating with my degree are to pass my licensing exam to become a registered Radiologic Technologist. Once I pass the exam, I hope to move back home to Salem and work in order to provide for my family. I would also like to be certified in a secondary modality like Computed Tomography (CT).
