Learn the history and science behind the medical imaging field in MIT 103 Introduction to Medical Imaging.

The Medical Imaging Department has five different imaging programs offered at the Klamath Falls campus. To be eligible for admission to any of these programs, specific prerequisites must be completed. View Program Selection Criteria and other application and selection information.

Please note, the online section of MIT 103 Intro to Medical Imaging is only available to students at our Online or Portland-Metro campuses.

Intro to Medical Imaging offers an orientation to the art and science of medical imaging. In this course, we discuss history and development of radiologic science, diagnostic medical sonography, vascular technology, nuclear medicine technology, medical ethics, the health care industry, related professional organizations, and regulatory agencies.

Please note several important things:

  1. You must take MIT 103 as part of the freshman year prerequisite courses.
MIT 103 is offered every term. You should take this course if at all possible prior to the spring term before the fall you plan to enroll in the program. (ex: Take by Spring 2024 for Fall 2024 program admission.)
  2. These programs are in high demand and waiting until spring term to take MIT 103 presents a risk of the class filling before you can register.
If you find yourself in this situation, contact Debbie McCollam at, but remember, all other prerequisites must also be completed by the end of that spring term for you to be eligible to apply to the program. If you will not complete all by the end of spring, you can postpone MIT 103 until summer or the next academic year.
  3. Admission to the university as a Pre-Medical Imaging student is separate from admission to the MIT program of your choice.
You may complete MIT 103 as a non-degree seeking student while seeking admission to the university and program for Fall term.

Application Process

Full admission to Oregon Tech is not required to complete MIT 103. Financial aid is not offered to non-degree seeking students but a payment plan is available. Follow the steps below to get started:

  1. Submit the Non-Degree Seeking Application. Select Pre-Medical Imaging Online as your major.
  2. Watch for an email from the Admissions office about registration.
  3. Register yourself for classes when registration opens.

Non-degree seeking students do not pay application fees since they are not attending a degree program, and are limited to 8 credits per term.

Once registered you are responsible for the tuition and fees. The payment and refund schedule, along with the payment plan application, is located on the Cashier’s Office website. The Academic Calendar details important registration dates and withdraw deadlines.
