Welcome to Klamath Falls!
We're excited that you're going to spend a few days with us and attend your event. We want to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible, so we have a few recommendations for you from our student-workers and staff to help you get to know our home.
Places to Stay
Our favorites, in order from least to most affordable:
- Shilo Inn (0.5 miles away from campus. Around a 15-minute walk!)
- Best Western (3.8 miles from campus, around a 10-minute drive)
- Fairfield by Marriott (3.8 miles from campus, around a 6-minute drive)
- Running Y Resort (8.2 miles from campus, around a 20-minute drive)
Each place has its strengths — the Shilo is walking distance from campus, restaurants, and coffee shops, while the Running Y has amazing views and more amenities. The Best Western has a relaxed, homey feel and is also within walking distance of several restaurants and grocery stores, while the Fairfield is located downtown, giving you access to the inner parts of Klamath Falls.

Fun to have in Klamath Falls
If you think there's not much to do in a small town, Klamath Falls will surprise you. The truth is, there's at least one of everything here. You can find things to do while you're here for your event and, if you enroll at Oregon Tech, for the years you live down here, too.

Things to do around Klamath Falls
If you're up for a short road trip, we have a few ideas for you so you can get the full Klamath Basin experience and get to know what sort of fun you can have over a weekend with your friends once you're a student.
- Lake of the Woods (34 miles from campus)
- If you want to get away for a weekend once you're a student, you can. You can either camp by the Lake of the Woods or stay in their resort! Even if you're just visiting for our event, you can take a look at one of the clearest natural lakes in Southern Oregon, you can hike around the lake itself and admire the views from the surrounding mountains, and say hi to the wildlife.
- Lava Beds National Monument (43 miles from campus)
- Cross the border to California (which, by the way, is only a 20-minute drive south from campus) and you'll find the Lava Beds National Monument. Here you can look through 800 caves with your friends, and it doesn't matter if you've never been in a cave before — you can start in beginner-level caves with no problem. You can also get a cool view from the top of a volcano at Schonchin Butte! You can do so much more here, too, but you'll have to actually go to find out!
- Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge (52 miles from campus)
- Get to know the birds and other endangered species of the Klamath Basin! You can take a day and explore the nearly 44,000 acres of meadows, open water wetlands, and river corridors. You can also explore the nearby Cascade Mountain Range. You won't be short of things to see and do at this Wildlife Refuge!
- Crater Lake (87 miles from campus)
- You can catch an amazing view of the United States' deepest lake. On top of that, you can enjoy a day of hiking, biking, snowshoeing, or just driving around at your own leisure. One thing a few of us found out the hard way? Make sure you're ready for all kinds of weather, no matter the forecast!
