Welcome to Klamath Falls!

We're excited that you're going to spend a few days with us and attend your event. We want to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible, so we have a few recommendations for you from our student-workers and staff to help you get to know our home.

Places to Stay

Our favorites, in order from least to most affordable:

Each place has its strengths — the Shilo is walking distance from campus, restaurants, and coffee shops, while the Running Y has amazing views and more amenities. The Best Western has a relaxed, homey feel and is also within walking distance of several restaurants and grocery stores, while the Fairfield is located downtown, giving you access to the inner parts of Klamath Falls.

Where you can eat

Klamath Falls has a lot of options  and variety in terms of places you can eat. We've got the usual fast-food options — McDonald's, Wendy's, Arby's, Dairy Queen — but we also have excellent local food options that we think you might like to try. We've listed a few of our favorites and categorized them for you below:

Asian Food
  • 9 Thai (4.3 miles from campus)
  • King Wah Restaurant & Lounge (4.3 miles from campus)
  • Momiji Sushi, Bento, & Teriyaki (5.8 miles from campus)
  • Somtum Thai (5.4 miles from campus)
  • Thai Orchid Cafe (Two locations: 2.7 miles from campus or 4.3 miles from campus)
Mexican Food
  • Priority: Jan 15
  • Final: Mar 1

Fun to have in Klamath Falls

If you think there's not much to do in a small town, Klamath Falls will surprise you. The truth is, there's at least one of everything here. You can find things to do while you're here for your event and, if you enroll at Oregon Tech, for the years you live down here, too.

  • Klamath Geo Trail (0.5 miles from campus)
    • A 2 mile trail that connects our campus with the nearby Sky Lakes Hospital. This trail is a great way to get to know the scenic views you can come to expect from Oregon Tech's campus and the surrounding sights
  • Pelican Cinemas (0.8 miles from campus)
    • A short drive from campus, Pelican Cinemas is a great choice for a social activity for not just the family, but our students too. Movies here might cost less than in other cities, but they're the same as anywhere you'd go. You're paying less to have the same good time!
  • Eulalona Park (1.7 miles from campus)
    • This unique park offers multiple playgrounds, perfect for any little ones you bring with you on your trip to our event. One of the playgrounds is made out of locally milled wood, as well as rock and sand. There are also dog parks, walking trails, and a picnic area. Perfect for a family setting.
  • Klamath County Museum (2.3 miles from campus)
    • We think this is a great way to get to know Klamath Falls and the surrounding area. You can spend all day in this place if you want to. You'll get to see birds displayed in their natural habitats, Native American and Pioneer artifacts, and a look at how World War II impacted Klamath Falls' story.
  • Basin Gaming (2.5 miles from campus)
    • This is Klamath Falls' premiere board game, card game, and mini-game store. If you're interested in table-top gaming, come check these guys out and spend an afternoon with them. You won't find people more passionate about their craft than these ones.
  • Ross Ragland Theater (2.8 miles from campus)
    • You can catch a real play at the Ross Ragland Theater. This is the cultural cornerstone of Klamath Falls, where you and your family can settle in for a few hours and watch a play, listen to a concert, or watch a dance showcase. The best part is it's right downtown, so after you're done there you can walk around, grab a bite to eat, get some dessert, and potentially go back to your hotel, all without a car.
  • Moore Park (3.0 miles from campus)
    • Right off Upper Klamath Lake, this park gives you access to our lake, access to a disc golf course, trails, picnic areas (with barbecue pits!), play areas, tennis courts, and soccer fields. There's something for everyone at this park, and we strongly encourage that everyone check it out just to see what it looks like. If you do choose to enroll with Oregon Tech, you can even take a few of your friends and rent a boat on the lake.
  • Linkville Playhouse/Theater (3.0 miles from campus)
    • The oldest community theater group in Klamath Falls. Here you can watch amateur theater shows up close and in-person. It may be ran by volunteers and non-profit, but this auditorium still hosts 83 seats as well as 35 balcony seats. You'll have a good time here if you choose to watch what these wonderful volunteers put their heart and soul into.
  • Steen Sports Park (4.9 miles from campus)
    • If you feel like you need to play some sports while you're visiting, Steen Sports Park is where you want to be. There are multiple fields/courts to allow you to play whatever you want, from baseball to soccer to pickleball, skateboarding, and more! Have anything else you'd want to play? There are 140 acres of open space for you to enjoy and explore.
  • Epicenter Bowling Alley (5.5 miles from campus)
    • The place to go in Klamath Falls if you want to go bowling. With a clean, family-friendly environment and reasonable rates, you can easily spend an hour or two here and feel like you've had a good time. There is also a Grill restaurant built-in as well as an arcade, so if someone in your party doesn't like bowling, you do have other options here too.

Things to do around Klamath Falls

If you're up for a short road trip, we have a few ideas for you so you can get the full Klamath Basin experience and get to know what sort of fun you can have over a weekend with your friends once you're a student.

  • Lake of the Woods (34 miles from campus)
    • If you want to get away for a weekend once you're a student, you can. You can either camp by the Lake of the Woods or stay in their resort! Even if you're just visiting for our event, you can take a look at one of the clearest natural lakes in Southern Oregon, you can hike around the lake itself and admire the views from the surrounding mountains, and say hi to the wildlife.
  • Lava Beds National Monument (43 miles from campus)
    • Cross the border to California (which, by the way, is only a 20-minute drive south from campus) and you'll find the Lava Beds National Monument. Here you can look through 800 caves with your friends, and it doesn't matter if you've never been in a cave before — you can start in beginner-level caves with no problem. You can also get a cool view from the top of a volcano at Schonchin Butte! You can do so much more here, too, but you'll have to actually go to find out!
  • Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge (52 miles from campus)
    • Get to know the birds and other endangered species of the Klamath Basin! You can take a day and explore the nearly 44,000 acres of meadows, open water wetlands, and river corridors. You can also explore the nearby Cascade Mountain Range. You won't be short of things to see and do at this Wildlife Refuge!
  • Crater Lake (87 miles from campus)
    • You can catch an amazing view of the United States' deepest lake. On top of that, you can enjoy a day of hiking, biking, snowshoeing, or just driving around at your own leisure.  One thing a few of us found out the hard way? Make sure you're ready for all kinds of weather, no matter the forecast!
