Biography

While pursuing his graduate degrees at Georgia Tech, Dr. Sean St.Clair was fortunate to gain experience as an instructor, teaching statics and dynamics, and as a structural designer with Starzer Brady Fagan Associates in Atlanta Georgia.  Both of these positions prepared him to join the faculty at Oregon Institute of Technology in 2004 where he is currently  a professor and chaired the Civil Engineering Department from 2009 to 2019. Under his leadership, the department won the  prestigious ASCE Walt LeFevre Award in 2013. Oregon Tech was granted the Oregon Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi under Dr. St.Clair’s leadership in 2018.

Sean became active in ASEE while in graduate school, winning an Apprentice Faculty Grant in 2003. After moving  to Oregon, he became heavily involved in the Pacific Northwest Section serving as Chair from 2009 to 2011 and Section  Campus since 2012. He was elected to Zone IV Chair and served from 2016 to 2018, during which time he also served  on ASEE’s national board of directors. He won the Pacific Northwest Section Best Paper Award in 2016, the Zone IV  Best Paper award in 2017, and the National Best Zone Paper Award in 2018. He was then invited to present this paper  at the main plenary session of the 2018 Annual Conference. Dr. St.Clair also won the Pacific Northwest Section  Outstanding Teacher Award in 2015.

Dr. St.Clair is heavily involved with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).  He has served on the FE Exam Development Committee for more than a decade writing and reviewing hundreds of  questions for the national exam. He is also a member of the Education Committee of NCEES.

Sean is a licensed engineer in Oregon and Vice-Chair of the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying.
