Oregon Institute of Technology will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010. Various activities are planned:
- Earth Day Fair – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in the College Union. Come visit with various members of the community engaged in preserving and improving our local ecosystem.
- Recycled Art Show and Contest – Wednesday and Thursday, April 21 and April 22, in Mt. Shasta Lounge and Mt. Bailey, CU. Come and enjoy art entries from everyone in our community, all made out of recycled material. This year for the first time we will have a People’s Choice Award – so come and vote for your favorite piece and see if it wins! Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. on April 22 in Mt Shasta Lounge.
- Presentation: Green Building Design Seminar – Thirteen Innovative Building Envelopes, by Dr. Nabil Taha, PE –3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the CU Auditorium.
- Movie presentation at 6 p.m. in the CU Auditorium – a documentary film about the corporatization of our nation’s food supply.
- Educational Solutions’ documentary, “Visions of the River: Working Together on the Klamath” premiers at the 2010 Oregon Institute of Technology’s Earth Day celebration from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on April 22, in the CU Auditorium. The one hour program focuses on Upper and Lower Klamath Basin stakeholders, scientists and high school students exploring the history of Klamath Basin water problems and possible solutions.
- Students from nine Basin high schools are featured in this documentary: Chiloquin, EagleRidge, Klamath Union, Henley and Lost River High Schools from Oregon, and Klamath River Early College of the Redwoods, Discovery (Yreka), Hoopa Valley, and Crescent City’s Del Norte High schools from California.
- Scientists include Ron Larson (USFWS), Cecil Leslie (BOR), Harry Carlson (UC Davis), Heather Hendrixson (TNC), Dave Hillemeier (Yurok Tribe), Larry Dunsmoor (Klamath Tribes), Jerri Bartholomew (OSU), and others.
