The commencement speaker for the 26th annual Portland commencement ceremony will be Preston Pulliams, Ph.D., Portland Community College’s fifth president. Pulliams started at Portland Community College after serving as vice-chancellor for Community Colleges for the State University of New York (SUNY) where he coordinated and directed the activities of the 30 community colleges in the SUNY system.

Before joining the SUNY administration, Pulliams served as the president of Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York from 1997 to 2003. From 1993 to 1997, he was president of the Highland Lakes Campus of the Oakland Community College District in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He served as vice-president for student affairs at the Community College of Philadelphia from 1985 to 1993, and he also served as dean of student services and counselor at Muskegon Community College from 1972 to 1984.

Pulliams is a community college graduate, earning his A.S. in Science from Muskegon Community College. He received a B.S. in Social Science from Michigan State University, an M.A. in Counseling and Personnel from Western Michigan University and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Michigan.

The 12th annual commencement ceremony at the Seattle campus takes place on June 10th at Carco Theater in Renton, Washington. This graduation is for those students who have successfully completed one of the programs offered to employees of The Boeing Company at sites in the Puget Sound area.

The 64th annual Klamath Falls commencement ceremony on June 16th will feature commencement speaker John P. He was appointed president by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education after serving as interim president from August 2005 to 2006.

In addition to his previous service at Western Oregon University, Minahan held academic leadership positions at Xavier University, the University of North Florida, and the State University of New York College at Buffalo.

Minahan received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He joined WOU in 1986, serving as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of Philosophy, before assuming his duties as provost in 1998.
