KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Cynthia Roe, a Civil Engineering student at Oregon Tech, has been selected as recipient of the 2020-21 Oregon undergraduate Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Scholarship, a scholarship valued at $2,500 to promote the advancement of the transportation profession by providing financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in transportation engineering or other related fields.

Cynthia Roe, Scholarship Recipient

Originally from Weed, California, Cynthia has been attending Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls for three years and is on track to graduate in 2022 with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering. She became interested in civil engineering at a young age; seeing the beautiful buildings her family built through their construction business made her want to be part of a design process. “While at Oregon Tech my department has grown this love of design,” she shared. “The knowledge that our faculty brings to the table combined with the projects required of us make engineering a more tangible and enjoyable experience.”

Cynthia is an extremely dedicated student who, in addition to her work with the ITE Student Chapter, served at the 2019-20 president of the American Society of Civil Engineers-Associated General Contractors Student Chapter and serves as a peer consultant in the Oregon Tech Student Success Center.

For the past 12 years, Oregon ITE has honored an outstanding undergraduate and graduate student from associated Oregon universities. This is the fourth time in seven years that an Oregon Tech undergraduate or graduate student has been awarded the scholarship, and the second year in a row. The scholarships are awarded annually from a large pool of applicants from several Oregon universities.

“I would like to thank the Oregon Tech Civil Engineering department chair, Dr. Roger Lindgren,” said Cynthia. “He is always the biggest advocate for us students and cares for our knowledge and goals. I appreciate his recommendation for this scholarship. I look forward to learning from him in the classroom and staying connected after graduating.”
