A Little Bit About Me

I am 22 years old, from Redding, California. I was born and raised in Northern California and spent my time growing up enjoying the outdoors, going to the lake, and hiking all the time. I played basketball and volleyball all throughout my school years and played up until coming to Oregon Tech. I was team manager for the women's basketball team here at OIT for the last 2 years and loved the opportunity to still be involved in athletics. I currently fill my time (when not studying or doing homework,) baking sourdough bread and pastries, reading the Bible or mystery books, working out, and hiking, kayaking, or fishing any chance I can get. I love bird photography and enjoying the wonders of nature- whether that be trees, flowers, sunsets, or animals.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Diagnostic Medical Sonography as my major because it has all the aspects of a career that I want to be a part of; it is fulfilling, with the opportunity to serve and impact others, there is vast opportunity for educational advancement and growth, and is a necessary skill all over the country. OIT was the best place for me to pursue this, as the only bachelor's program in the area and high success rates.

My Influential Professors

During my time as a junior in the DMS program, I was lucky to have Robyn Cole as both my main professor and head of the program. Her influence, expertise, and impact on a personal level has greatly affected my time at Oregon Tech. She provided me with a constant support system, guiding me with positivity and direction in the difficulties and successes I have run into during my time in this program, despite the personal challenges happening in her own life. She instilled an excitement and fresh perspective about the ultrasound field, that has shown me what I have to look forward to and strive towards as I enter my career.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experiences at Oregon Tech was during the hospital rotations I did in my junior year. Getting a hands-on look into the ultrasound field was very beneficial and taught me valuable information that textbook learning alone could not do. I was able to experience angry patients, kind patients, assist in invasive procedures, watch high risk fetuses be scanned, go into the ER and see emergency situations, and learn how to communicate to patients correctly. This type of exposure helped to prepare me for the field.

My Plans After Graduation

After graduating with my degree, I would like to gain as many certifications as I can, including abdomen, OB/GYN, and vascular. This will give me the opportunity to continue learning and growing well past graduation, and be involved in various aspects of the ultrasound world. With my degree, I would love to travel and work in many different areas and meet a variety of people and patients. Long term goals for me include work in women's health care, and supporting women the best I can through imaging.
