Volunteering as a dental assistant with Medical Teams International

A Little Bit About Me

I was born and raised in Oregon. I am a first-generation student of immigrant parents. I have two siblings and I am the middle child. Being the first in my family to attend a university means so much to me. I am proud to be a role model for my younger sister. My family has worked hard to help me get where I am today. I have always tried to make my parents proud and live up to their expectations. The reason why they moved here was so their children can have a better future and education. With the help from this scholarship I plan to do just that.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech because of the high rate of success dental hygiene students have and the amazing reviews from past students. Having a location in Salem, OR was also a plus.

My Influential Professors

Kimberly Dayton has been my most influential professor. She motivated me throughout my first year of the DH program and reminded me things will not be easy but to never give up.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience was during spring term of the first year in the dental hygiene program. I learned how to work with patients one-on-one during dental cleaning appointments. Learning how to be a clinician has been very fulfilling.

My Plans After Graduation

My plan once I graduate is to obtain a job as a dental hygienist in a clinic that offers oral care to low-income Hispanic communities. I hope to stay with one clinic long term.
