Extracurricular Activities
Currently outside of school I like to go racing at the Woodburn dragstrip and help around my family's farm. Previously I was actively involved in 4H, FFA and various community service events.
A Little Bit About Me
My name is April Asman, I am currently a Freshman at OIT finishing up pre-medical imaging courses and hoping to get into the Radiologic Science program cohort for Fall of 2025. I grew up in West Stayton Oregon, a small community in the central Willamette Valley. I graduated from Cascade High School in Turner, Oregon. My main interests for a future career have always been health care oriented however some of my hobbies include, hunting, drag racing, and helping around the family farm. I love adrenaline and think a career in X-ray or CT will suite me well!
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech for its medical imaging program that compares to no other in the state. With an array of hands-on learning and the externship year, I feel confident that Oregon Tech will well prepare me well for my future career. I chose Radiologic Science as my major because I loved the many different pathways and cross training opportunities that all stem from this degree.
My Influential Professors
My most influential professor at Oregon Tech would be Professor Elliot, my anatomy and physiology teacher. Her outgoing personality, dedication and belief in her students was unmatched to any other professor I have had. Through study sessions, questions after class, and replying to emails rapidly she showed me how dedicated she was to the subject and our learning. Not to mention, she pushes us to do our best and to keep our heads up when it gets hard.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech isn't a specific thing. Rather it was the whole year compiled, the good, the bad, the struggles and how much I learned about myself through the process. I was overwhelmed in the beginning, but the excellent staff, resources, and advisors helped me by answering questions and guiding me in the right direction. I have learned how to succeed in my studies and work well with others in my time at Oregon Tech.
My Plans After Graduation
Ultimately after graduation, I would like to move back close to my hometown to be surrounded by friends and family. I plan to continue working as an X-Ray tech for a few years and potentially cross training into CT if the opportunity arises. My goal as a tech is to put as many smiles on my patients faces as I possibly can and give them a positive outlook in the short time I get to spend with them.
