A Little Bit About Me

I am a mother of a very active 5 year old. Balancing school and being an engaging mother to my daughter has been a challenge, but one that I hope I am rising to. I live in Wilsonville with my husband, daughter, 2 cats and 2 dogs. I spent 10 years as a veterinary assistant, a job that I was passionate about but was not fulfilling all the needs myself and my family required. I hope to enter human medicine as an MLS to continue a career that I can be passionate about but will also be sustainable and help me achieve a high quality of life standard for myself and my loved ones.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose OIT because they have an excellent MLS program. I chose the MLS program as a transition to human medicine from veterinary medicine. I enjoyed the laboratory component of veterinary medicine and thought that pursuing this aspect of care in a human medicine capacity would be a rewarding and impactful career.

My Influential Professors

Every one of the MLS program professors have been amazing. The quality of teaching and mentoring is top tier in this program! I truly believe that their teaching and guidance will ensure my success in my future career as an MLS professional.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

Oregon Tech has been such an engaging and fun campus! Attending the MLS program at the Portland-Metro OIT campus has taught me how to engage in my academics in a more enjoyable way. The culture and inclusion of the campus had me meeting new people and seeking out and engaging in opportunities that I would not have normally considered (i.e. becoming the VP of the ASCLS club).

My Plans After Graduation

I plan to work as a bench tech immediately after graduating and taking the certification exam. After that, I hope to gain valuable skills and knowledge through work that will eventually aid in obtaining a supervisory position. In the long term, I hope to return to school to gain a doctorate of MLS.
