A Little Bit About Me
This year I have attended Southwestern Oregon Community College and I will graduate with an AAOT that I completed in one year. Along with the classes I needed for my AAOT, I have completed classes that I will need further along in my Diagnostic Medical Sonography major ahead of time through transferable credits. I was also a part of the SWOCC volleyball team and played as the starting libero. In between classes I have been able to work part time at Les Schwab Tire Center as a sales and admin. At work, my job is to greet customer, answer phones, take payments and sell tires. While working at Les Schwab, I have learned many important life skills like how to change a tire, fix a flat, and put on chains. When not working or in class, I spend my time with my family and friends making memories.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech because I wanted to stay in Oregon to continue my studies and because of Oregon Tech's outstanding reputation. Before I chose my major of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, I job shadowed at my local hospital, Bay Area Hospital. After watching the technicians perform and take care of their patients I knew that this is was the career path for me.
My Influential Professors
This year I will be transferring from Southwestern Oregon Community College and from my experience the most influential professor I have worked with has been my Anatomy and Physiology professor, Andrea Knutsen. Andrea Knutsen has been an influential professor to me because of all the resources she gave her students to learn. She always let her students know that she is available for them and ready to help with anything they needed. Her teaching helped me excel and grasp a better understanding of the Anatomy and Physiology class. With her teaching I am now going into my major of Diagnostic Medical Sonography with a solid learning foundation.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
As a transfer student some of the unique qualities that I will be bringing to my studies while at Oregon Tech is my ability to collaborate with others, my open-mindedness, and my creativity. I have always been a part of team sports and with that I have been able to listen and take in others ideas and put them towards the end goals. With that I am a very open-minded person because I believe that listening to and working with others can create the best solutions. Lastly, I enjoy creating new ways to complete tasks more efficiently.
My Plans After Graduation
After I graduate, I plan to apply to Bay Area Hospital and start my career with them. Once working at Bay Area Hospital, I plan to work there for at least four years before eventually becoming a traveling Ultrasound Technician so that I can experience other towns, cities, and hospitals. While being a traveling technician, I want to soak up all the knowledge I can from other technicians that have been working for years and learn their tips and tricks to become a helpful addition to the healthcare profession.
