A Little Bit About Me
I have two younger brothers, and I enjoy playing games and sports with them. I also love to be involved in my community, both in and out of high school. I'm a three-sport athlete competing in football, wrestling, and golf. I attend every school event that I can, whether it's cheering for the basketball team or performing skits for the school. I am a leader in the Young Life Club, a Christian organization that brings high school students together. Over the past few years our club has grown to about 50 participants. We spend Monday evenings together, often chatting late into the night. I love to spend time at the golf course. I'm always bringing friends to the course to hang out and play. During the summer I help the golf course run youth golf camps and teach golf skills.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
After I visited Oregon Tech, the amazing shop space and equipment sold me. I thought our high school's facilities were great until I saw how expansive the Oregon Tech shop classes were! I chose to pursue a mechanical engineering degree because I love to tinker, construct projects, and solve puzzles. I think OIT's facilities have the best tools for this. Also, I will be playing for the Men's Golf team!
My Influential Professors
My most influential (and most fun) teacher was Mr. Andresen. Originally, he was my middle school football coach, so I already had a relationship with him when I entered high school. He taught my two high school Physics classes. I liked him because he always brought energy to the class. Physics has a lot of complex concepts, and he was able to keep everyone engaged without revealing all the answers. This style forced me to come up with solutions on my own. Even when I asked a question, I wasn't guaranteed an answer. Mr. Andresen was great at teaching students how to think on their own.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
During high school I've had the opportunity to take shop classes. This has included both welding and wood shop. By the end of my senior year, I will have my welding certification. This year our metals shop purchased a new laser engraver, and I was one of the students that helped to set it up! I am grateful my school offered so many amazing shop classes. I am confident the skills I learned will help me in my studies at Oregon Tech.
My Plans After Graduation
Looking beyond college, my experiences at the HVAC company have convinced me that I want to a be a business owner. I have a dream of owning and operating a large shop that uses the latest computer technology and fabrication tools. I want to use the skills I've learned from Oregon Tech and apply them to my business. I hope to provide services to my local community and to also make products that are shipped all over the world.
