A Little Bit About Me
I have been interested in science since middle school but was nervous to pursue medicine because I knew it would take a long time, and I would go into a lot of debt to achieve my dreams. However, you only have so much time in the world, and wasting it doing something you’re not passionate about is not something I support. If there is one thing about me, it’s that I want to live my life doing something I am truly happy doing, no matter the cost.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech because I grew up visiting for school events and watching my mom attend while raising me and my six siblings. I remember the strong sense of community and how supported she felt as a student and parent. I chose Bio-Health to honor her—she gave up science for her family—and because inspiring teachers and professors helped grow my own passion for science.
My Influential Professors
One professor stands out to me—not just because his teaching style fits how I learn, but because he consistently goes above and beyond for his students. Kamal Ghandi has been a major influence on my academic journey at Oregon Tech. He breaks down complex topics into simple, approachable parts tailored to each class. He creates helpful resources like study guides, YouTube videos, and detailed answer keys, and ensures every student grasps the material before moving on. He’s shown me that difficult subjects can be tackled, a mindset I’ll carry into my medical career.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
I heard that comparison is the thief of joy, but I didn’t understand it until college. Among students, comparing grades and test scores is normal. While I recognize the reassurance it might bring, I’ve also realized it’s an incomplete picture of someone’s effort or potential. Everyone’s journey is shaped uniquely—some grades come from stable environments, others from sleepless nights. Regardless, we all aim for growth, and the journey and the mistakes we make along the way are the best experiences one can get in life.
My Plans After Graduation
My plan after graduation has always been to attend medical school, but if I don't go immediately after, I plan to take a gap year to participate in research projects. I've always been interested in science, and doing something related to the field just to get experience would satisfy me.
