Extracurricular Activities

I have been a musician for over 20 years, I play classical flute and piano.

A Little Bit About Me

My name is Heather Wilson, and I am a 35-year-old full-time college student. I grew up in a small town of about 7,000 people. After graduating high school in 2006, I became a hairstylist for several years. I realized I was better suited for a career in healthcare, and I began this journey by becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). I am passionate about emergency services, but realized it was a high-stress and low-pay career choice, and decided I would like to work as a dental hygienist in preventive healthcare. I am fortunate to have been accepted into a Bachelor of Science degree program and have a 4.0 GPA.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech because I wanted to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree, and I wanted to earn the extra dental hygiene expanded practice credentials for my future career. I chose this major because I was working in emergency services as an EMT and wanted to change paths and work in preventive care.

My Influential Professors

Many of my professors have been influential! Paula Hendrix allowed me the opportunity to join this wonderful and highly competitive program, and I am eternally grateful that she blessed me with this opportunity. Kimberly Dayton has helped create an environment that is fun while also highly educational. I value the wonderful professors involved in this program.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

I have learned that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible. Becoming a full-time college student in my 30s has been a challenge, and I have learned that it's never too late to change career paths and earn a meaningful education!

My Plans After Graduation

I would like to work as an Expanded Practice Dental Hygienist in restorative dental care, and I would like to continue my role as a volunteer EMT at my local fire station.
