Extracurricular Activities

Varsity Soccer for three years, and I was an all-league honorable mention my senior year. Varsity Wrestling for three years, and I was third place at the regional tournament my junior year and fourth my senior year, qualifying me for state both years. Varsity Tennis for four years, and a two-time regional placer and state participant. I am also a team captain this year. National Honor Society member beginning my junior year. Pre-Calculus Student of the Year in my junior year. Honor Roll all four years of society. I will graduate as Valedictorian this year. Worked as a housekeeper at a hotel during the summers since 2022. I have been a part of two political campaigns, helping to plan and dropping literature at doors, talking to the residents there. I was a part of leadership for two years, including being Vice President of my class. I participated in the University of Oregon's SAIL program. I have participated on a robotics team and competed at the state level.

A Little Bit About Me

Two of my most valuable traits are my ability to continuously learn and collaborate. I strive to improve at everything I do by learning from teachers, coaches, and my own experiences. My soccer coach once said my strength is how “coachable” I am, and I apply that mindset everywhere. I believe being open to learning, including from mistakes, makes me a strong team member. I also work well with others, enjoying the process of solving tough problems together. Collaboration brings diverse ideas to the table, which is key to success. Through leadership roles in school, volunteering with young kids, and serving as a tennis team captain, I’ve gained valuable experience working with and guiding others. I hope to one day lead a team of engineers using these skills.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose OIT after a campus visit through my high school. The small campus, hands-on learning, and advanced equipment stood out to me. I’m excited to work with peers on real-world projects and build strong relationships with professors thanks to the small class sizes. OIT offers exactly what I’m looking for to reach my full potential in college.

My Influential Professors

The most influential teacher I knew in high school was the front desk person, Mr. Bonnett. I had Jake, as I know him, as my high school soccer coach for three years. When I started, I had practically no soccer experience, but he helped me improve and supported me throughout the whole process. His dedication to our team was like nothing I had ever seen. Jake goes above and beyond to ensure the best practices, the best game plans, and the best ways to support each player. Through injuries and mid-game challenges, my coach was always able to persevere and help those around him to do the same.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experiences in high school didn't come from academics, but rather from the sports I played. I played tennis all four years and started soccer and wrestling my sophomore year. The three main things I learned were how to work as a team, how to lead, and work ethic. When I first started, I was focusing on how to do my part to support the team, but by my senior year, I was in a leadership role on all of my teams including team captain of my tennis team.

My Plans After Graduation

Two engineering issues I’m interested in exploring are environmental impact and the rise of AI. I want to help develop eco-friendly solutions to reduce fossil fuel use and pollution. I enjoy brainstorming and would love to innovate “green” technologies. I’m also drawn to AI and its potential to improve efficiency and quality. I’d like to explore how to integrate AI into systems to make engineering work smarter and more effective.
