A Little Bit About Me
In my personal life I'm a husband to my wife Alicia and a father to our 7 year old daughter Emily. I truly enjoy time with my family, cooking and providing an environment where they can thrive. I'm at a transitional period in my career, after working for 10 years for a small electronics company I was laid off after the company was acquired by a large corporation. I'm taking the opportunity to finish up a BS degree in my field and refresh my knowledge. I'm very passionate about electronics and I think Electrical and Electronic Engineers have a very important role to play in the coming years as we enter this new era of artificial intelligence. It is our duty is to ensure that new technologies are implemented in a way that benefits society rather than eroding it.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
Having completed an AAS in Electronics Technology in 2012, Oregon Tech offers a unique program in partnership with local community colleges that allowed me to pick up where I left off and complete a BS degree with only 2 additional years of study. My brother is also an OIT alumni and had an excellent experience here.
My Influential Professors
Dr. Cristina Crespo has been my most influential professor so far. I particularly appreciate her ability to teach a very complex subject in a way that's easy to understand but also encourages students to dig deeper into details after they are comfortable with the basic ideas.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
The AAS in Electronics Technology degree that I earned at Rogue Community College prepared me well to join Oregon Tech as a Junior this year working towards my BSEET degree. However, the community college degree required very little mathematics. The higher level mathematics that I have studied so far at Oregon Tech have had a profound illuminating effect on my overall comprehension of electronics.
My Plans After Graduation
I'll have the rare advantage of graduating with a BS next year while already having 10+ years of experience working in the Electrical Engineering field. I'd like to find a small company or startup in Oregon that has a great product idea or an important problem that needs to be solved where I can apply my skills and knowledge to help make that idea or solution into a reality.
