A Little Bit About Me
I am a first generation Mexican American living with my mom here in Klamath. I like expressing myself in many different mediums. Through art I express myself in drawings, paintings, doodles and water color but in recent years I have somewhat lost this passion. I love to dance, it's not any kind of dancing like ballet or ballroom. I dance to regional Mexican music, with different iconic dances like zapateado and huapangos. With this passion I also joined a Baile Folklórico (Mexican folk dance) class earlier this year. While I enjoy these hobbies, I am also very dedicated when it comes to education. I am going to continue my education at Oregon Institute of Technology and major in Biology-Health Sciences, aspiring to do something in the family medicine field.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech for a variety of reasons. First, I live 10 minutes away from the campus and since I'm so close to the school it would be weird if I chose to pick a school that was further away. Second, they have a major I'm really interested in which is Biology-Health Sciences. The most important factor that played into my decision was that I was still close to my family.
My Influential Professors
I have had Mrs. Montiel throughout all of my high school years. She has given me so much advice on how I should go about scholarships, the college application process and also life advice. She has made a huge impact on my school decisions, and I wouldn't be here without her help. I am excited to study with Mr. Bunting because this past year I interviewed him for a school project. He seemed like a good professor based off his responses, so I am hoping I get to work with him at OIT.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience in high school was in my Algebra 2 class junior year. I struggled on homework and tests but instead of blaming myself, I blamed the teacher. Seeing that other students were passing perfectly fine, I realized that it clearly couldn't have been their fault. I stopped getting distracted during class time and actually took notes. I ended up passing the class with a very low A and with this moment I learned that I have to take responsibility for my actions.
My Plans After Graduation
My post Oregon Tech plans are still very patchy. I would like to go into medical school and since the classes I need to get my degree are also prerequisites for a lot of medical schools it all works out. Career wise I am not sure which profession I want yet, though I am leaning more towards family medicine/ family doctor. I'm sure that during my years at Oregon Tech I will be more confident in my career choices.
