A Little Bit About Me

I am a first-generation student, wife, and mother of two, currently pursuing a nursing degree at Oregon Tech. My journey has been shaped by overcoming significant challenges, such as being adopted from Guatemala and learning English as a second language. I am also a breast cancer survivor, I gained so much strength and resilience, which fueled my desire to help others in healthcare. I aspire to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and return to Guatemala to provide medical care to underserved communities. This scholarship will ease financial burdens, allowing me to focus on my education and long-term goals. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion for helping others.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech because of its strong reputation for hands on learning, practical experience, and dedicated faculty. The program’s focus on preparing students for real world careers aligns with my goal of becoming a nurse. The supportive environment and personalized approach to education also appeal to me, as I value being part of a close-knit community where I can grow academically and professionally.

My Influential Professors

One of the most influential professors I look forward to studying with at Oregon Tech is Professor Tricia Elliott in the Science Department. As my anatomy professor, she has already shown a deep commitment to ensuring her students understand complex concepts and apply them in real world settings. Her engaging teaching style and willingness to provide support have inspired me to push further in my studies. I look forward to learning more from her as I continue my education in healthcare.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been developing strong time management and adaptability skills. Balancing academics with outside responsibilities has taught me to stay organized, focused, and resilient. I bring dedication and a diverse perspective to my studies, which prepares me for a career in healthcare where empathy, critical thinking, and teamwork are essential.

My Plans After Graduation

After graduating with my nursing degree, I plan to pursue a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), focusing on underserved communities. My goal is to provide compassionate care to families, especially in rural areas. I also aim to return to Guatemala to give back to my home country by offering medical care to those in need. I’m committed to continuing my education and expanding my skills to make a positive impact in healthcare.
