Other Degrees Obtained and Colleges Attended: Bachelor of Science in Biology-Health Sciences, Oregon Institute of Technology
1. Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I chose Oregon Tech to continue my education in the DPT program because of the positive experiences I had during my undergraduate years. My time at Oregon Tech was unforgettable, strongly based on the relationships I formed with my peers, professors, and teammates. The small class sizes played a major role in this, as they created an environment that supported my learning through lectures and hands-on skill development.
2. What do you like most about your program?
What I appreciate most about the DPT program is my cohort. Building personal connections with each of them has been one of the highlights of my experience. The support we provide one another has been incredibly motivating, especially when facing the challenges that come with physical therapy school.
3. What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?
I am passionate about improving access to physical therapy for underserved populations. A key pillar of the OIT/OHSU program is rural health, and I have learned how individuals in these areas often lack the level of care seen in urban settings. I plan to work in a rural environment to help bridge this gap and improve healthcare access for these communities.
4. What have been some of your favorite classes and why?
Some of my favorite courses have focused on the treatment and management of neurologic conditions. The clinicians teaching these courses are highly knowledgeable and supportive, and this made the learning process much more engaging despite the complexity of the material. These experiences have inspired me to pursue a career in a neurologic specialty setting.
5. Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?
There are many opportunities within the Klamath Falls community beyond campus. Rural health is a significant factor when discussing barriers in the healthcare system, and being in this environment provides valuable insight into those challenges. One of the most rewarding aspects of being here is the opportunity to engage with and serve those who make up this community.
6. Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus/what you wish you knew before beginning your program?
It is important to maintain balance during graduate school by staying connected to the things you enjoy. Bringing your hobbies with you and making time for them can help reduce stress and keep you motivated throughout the demands of PT school.
