A Little Bit About Me
I’m a first-generation college student, a full-time worker, and a mom to a beautiful little girl. Growing up, my mom ran a foster care home for people with disabilities, which taught me to care for others from a young age. I wasn’t in foster care, but being around people who needed support showed me how important compassion and patience are. I’ve always been a people person, and nursing allows me to turn that passion into a career. I’m determined to make a better life for my family and give back to my community.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose Oregon Tech because of its welcoming community and the many clubs and groups that help everyone feel included. It's a place where students can truly belong. I’ve always wanted to help people, and becoming a nurse is the perfect way for me to do that while also building a secure future for my family. The strong hands-on nursing program was a key factor in my decision, and it has given me the tools to confidently pursue my career goals. I’m honored to be getting my education here as I work toward my nursing degree.
My Influential Professors
One of my most influential professors is Alishia Huntoon, who teaches my PSY 317 class. Over the past few terms, I’ve learned so much from her, not just about psychology, but also about myself and my future. She has really helped me set up a game plan to stay on track with my goals and made my college journey feel a lot less confusing. Her support and guidance have been a big part of why I feel more confident about where I’m headed.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
One of my greatest learning experiences at Oregon Tech has been discovering more about myself and what I’m truly capable of. Being involved in clubs, tutoring, and cultural nights while balancing school, work, and motherhood has taught me time management, leadership, and the importance of community. I’ve learned that I can push through tough times and still grow, and that I’m never truly alone here with all the support this campus offers.
My Plans After Graduation
After graduation, I plan to become a registered nurse and work in pediatric or community health, where I can make a direct impact in people’s lives, especially families and children who need extra support. I’ve always been passionate about caring for others, and I want to be the kind of nurse who not only treats patients but also truly listens to them and advocates for their well-being. In the long term, I hope to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner. My goal is to work in underserved communities that often don’t have easy access to quality healthcare. I want to help close that gap and be part of the change. More than anything, I want to be a strong role model for my daughter, someone she can look up to and be proud of. I want her to see that no matter your background or challenges, you can still follow your dreams, work hard, and make a difference.
