A Little Bit About Me

I grew up in Kihei, Hawaii. I have always grown up in the small community realm. Even after moving to Las Vegas to finish high school I always knew I wanted to go back to that sense of everyone knows everyone community. So, coming to Oregon Tech felt very comfortable for me and where I can flourish. Funny story that not many people know about is that I actually wanted to study radiologic science when I came here. However, when it came to registration, I switched to engineering and I am so glad that I did. There has always been a hidden love for engineering in me, but this school has helped it come to fruition. I also have the pleasure of playing on the Oregon Tech women's golf team. It has been an amazing experience and something I will cherish forever.

Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major

I chose Oregon Tech for a couple of reasons. One of those reasons is the size of the school. This school feels like a community with everyone that you meet. Especially in your classes, you get to know your classmates and professors on a personal level. Another reason is that I could major in Engineering and play collegiate golf. I did not have to compromise my schooling to play a collegiate-level sport.

My Influential Professors

My influential professor would be Dr. Mateo Aboy. I have had Dr. Aboy as a professor for quite a few classes. He really displays that he cares about the success of all his students. Not only does he expect you to do your best, but he also pushes you to exceed your own expectations of what you thought you could do. I have been able to learn a lot of my potential through his classes that other professors haven't had me do.

My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech

My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech has been perseverance. Being a woman in Engineering hasn't been easy, but that never stopped me from achieving what I have. I have gone through the craziest imposter syndrome throughout my time here, thinking I didn't have what it takes to be an engineer. However, I put my head down and kept working hard and continuing to do so, which has paid off tremendously. I am currently doing a Bachelor's and Master's at the same time, which is an amazing accomplishment in itself.

My Plans After Graduation

I plan to take my degree and work in the power industry somewhere. I have an internship for this summer in that industry. I am very excited to see what the industry looks like. I am also interested to see what kind of work I can do as a career.
