Transfer FAQ

Students with a 2.25 grade point average (GPA) in 36 quarter (24 semester) hours of transferable college work are generally eligible for admission to Oregon Tech, provided space is available in the desired major and they have completed college-level English Composition and Algebra. Be sure to submit official transcripts from every college attended and have them mailed directly to Oregon Tech Admissions, 3201 Campus Dr., Klamath Falls, OR 97601-8801. Proof of high school graduation in the form of a final high school transcript or GED scores must also be submitted unless the applicant has an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree. Students who have completed fewer than 36 quarter hours of transferable college-level credit will be evaluated based on college and high school performance.

Mail to: Oregon Tech Admissions, 3201 Campus Dr., Klamath Falls OR 97601-8801. Transcripts are only considered official if they are sent directly from your previous institution. Transcripts that are submitted by the student will not be considered official.
• If you have attended an institution outside of the United States, you must provide a course-by-course transcript translation and evaluation. Click here for more information.

Oregon Tech offers rolling admissions throughout the year, but Oregon Tech's priority deadline for Admissions Scholarships is March 1 of each year. Students must apply and be accepted for admission by March 1 to qualify for these scholarships. Oregon Tech also has additional scholarships available through Financial Aid (details and deadlines available on linked webpage).

You can meet the math requirement by receiving a C- or higher in a course equivalent to Oregon Tech’s MATH 95 – Intermediate Algebra. Technical or accounting courses will not fulfill this requirement, but a transferrable higher level math course is generally acceptable.

You can meet the writing requirement by receiving a C- or higher in a college writing course equivalent to Oregon Tech’s WRI 115 – Introduction to Writing. Technical or literature-based writing courses will not fulfill this requirement, but a transferrable higher level writing class equivalent to WRI 121, 122, or 123 is also acceptable.

You can use this tool to see how courses taken at other institutions have transferred in the past. Not every college is in this tool and some courses have yet to be evaluated. A Transfer Evaluation Report acknowledging the courses accepted by Oregon Tech will be completed after admission to Oregon Tech. You can access your Transfer Evaluation Report 24/7 on your Web for Student under the Student Records menu after it has been completed.

Vocational or technical courses may also be accepted, if the major department determines they satisfy particular bachelor's degree requirements. In all cases, course and/or department prerequisites will be enforced. As a general rule, only credits from regionally accredited institutions can be accepted.

Transfer students with associate degrees will be granted junior standing for registration purposes, but may still be required to take prerequisites and remedial courses before taking upper-division courses.

Some programs waive general education requirements for students with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, and an Oregon Transfer Module may cover most general education requirements. Transfer students entering Oregon Tech who have earned either an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree (AAOT) or an Associate of Science in Business degree (ASOTB) from an Oregon community college will be considered as having met Oregon Tech’s lower-division general education requirements.

Students will receive the following credit for courses, unless already taken:

• SPE 111 Fundamentals of Speech
• WRI 121 English Composition
• WRI 122 English Composition
• MATH 111 College Algebra
• *9 credits of humanities
• *12 credits of social sciences

*If certain humanities or social sciences are required for a particular program, they will need to be taken.

If you live in a Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) state and apply under a WUE-eligible major, then you may qualify for the reduced WUE tuition rate. Please visit www.oit.edu/wue for a full list of participating majors and eligibility guidelines.

Oregon Tech has arranged tuition reciprocity agreements with College of the Redwoods, College of the Siskiyous, and Shasta College. These agreements allow a limited number of qualified out-of-state students to attend Oregon Tech while paying in-state tuition rates. Please contact the community college directly to learn how to qualify for a reciprocity permit. More information is available at www.oit.edu/reciprocity.

All students, including transfers, enrolled at least half time (6 units per quarter) are eligible for financial aid. To apply for federal and state aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list Oregon Tech's school code (003211).

The priority deadline for filing your FAFSA is March 1. Students who file after that date are still eligible for aid, but will find that most of the funds have been expended. Refer to Oregon Tech Financial Aid for specifics.

Students seeking financial aid under the dual enrollment agreement will be able to combine their credits at each institution to be considered a full-time student under federal reporting guidelines. Students will work with the Oregon Tech Financial Aid Office to designate which school will be considered their Home Institution and which school will be the Host Institution. The Home Institution will distribute financial aid to the student. A student would then be responsible for taking care of the account at the Host Institution. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours with their Home Institution to receive financial aid.

Any transfer student admitted to the main campus in Klamath Falls may reserve a room in the residence hall by submitting a housing contract, $50 non-refundable housing application fee and a $100 deposit to Oregon Tech Housing & Residence Life by May 1. After May 1, housing is available based on the date your contract and deposit are received by the housing office.

On-campus housing is available available only at the main campus location in Klamath Falls.

Oregon Tech primarily offers four-year Bachelor of Science degrees. You can explore the full requirements of your program by downloading the Oregon Tech Catalog. The type and number of credits transferred and the number of credits you enroll in and successfully complete each term at Oregon Tech will determine how long it takes to receive a degree. All degrees require students to take a minimum number of Oregon Tech courses. For a bachelor’s program, a minimum of 45 term-credit hours must be taken from Oregon Tech. For an associate degree, a minimum of 30 term-credit hours must be taken from Oregon Tech.
