Congratulations to the 39 new Medical Laboratory Scientists who graduated on Saturday from our joint program with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Medical laboratory scientists are the individuals that perform some of the crucial testing currently happening for the diagnosis of coronavirus. A recent article in The New York Times stressed the importance of laboratory professionals: “In the absence of trained workers to process and analyze the nation’s tests, America’s diagnostic infrastructure will not merely wrinkle and slow, experts said.

After a 10-year hiatus from college, Danielle Garcia returned to Oregon Tech and was accepted into the highly competitive Medical Lab Science program, which included relocating to Wilsonville to begin the intense 18-month program with 15 months of classes and labs followed by three months at an externship site.
